BISJ starts the Arabic program in YR as a second language for all students. When students reach Y1 they are categorised into either Arabic speakers or non-Arabic speakers, where they are exposed to the language for four sessions each week. Our arabic department teach modern standard Arabic language as this enables students to access all Arabic communities and cultures; it is also the form of the language used in all Arabic media i.e. newspapers, magazines, T.V and books.
Our Arabic speaker students study the language as a first language which allows them to move smoothly to any school in the Arab world, and prepare them to have Bilingual IB Diploma in the future. Our Non Arabic speakers learn to communicate in Arabic through the four learning skills; speaking, listening, reading and writing.
We also have confidence that our students will acquire Arabic most successfully through child-centered approaches that motivate them and make learning the language an enjoyable experience.
